Division: Steel Fabrication Workshop
Job Purpose:
The Workshop Manager holds full operational, profit & loss (P&L), and business development responsibility for the Steel Fabrication Workshop. This role is critical for not only ensuring the workshop operates efficiently, safely, and profitably but also for actively driving its growth. The manager will lead production, oversee quality control, manage staff, and be directly accountable for developing new client relationships and expanding the workshop's market share.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Business Development & Growth Strategy:
• Develop and execute a strategic business plan to achieve sales targets and expand the workshop's client base and service offerings.
• Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities in target market segments (construction, oil & gas, industrial plants).
• Build and maintain a strong network of relationships with key clients, contractors, engineering firms, and potential partners.
• Lead the client acquisition process, from initial inquiry and relationship building to negotiating contracts and closing deals.
• Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to enhance brand visibility.
2. Marketing & Proposals:
• Work in tandem with the Marketing & Sales Executive (Steel Division) to develop and implement a targeted marketing strategy, including digital marketing, technical content, and case studies.
• Lead the technical and commercial preparation of bids, proposals, and quotations, ensuring they are competitive, accurate, and profitable.
• Provide the marketing team with key technical differentiators and success stories to leverage in campaigns.
• Analyze market trends and competitor activity to identify new opportunities for services or niches.
3. Operational Management & Production:
• Plan, schedule, and manage all workshop production activities to meet project deadlines and quality standards, ensuring capacity aligns with sales projections.
• Allocate manpower, machinery, and materials effectively across multiple projects.
• Oversee the entire fabrication process, from cutting and welding to assembly and finishing.
• Ensure all workshop machinery and equipment are properly maintained and serviced.
6. Leadership & People Management:
• Lead, motivate, and manage the workshop team, including supervisors, welders, fitters, painters, and helpers.
• Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and foster a skilled, high- performing team.
• Manage staffing levels, including recruitment in consultation with the HR & Admin Manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field. An MBA or business- related certification is a strong advantage.
• Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a steel fabrication environment, with at least 5 years in a managerial role that included direct sales, business development, or P&L responsibility.
• Technical Skills:
o In- depth knowledge of steel fabrication processes, welding procedures (WPS/PQR), metallurgy, and finishing.
o Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, shop drawings, and ISO standards.
o Strong understanding of QA/QC protocols and HSE regulations within a heavy industrial workshop.
o Familiarity with ERP/MRP software for production planning and management.
